Trekking program 8 days / 7 nightsDiscover one of the unexplored treasures in Europe with its wildlife, gorgeous nature and breathtaking landscapes. We’ll take you on guided trekking trails that allows you a deeper contact with the history and biodiversity that makes the Gerês National Park, one of the most interesting tourist spots in Portugal.
Caves and cracks carved in the rocks by the nature over thousands of years, waterfalls, lagoons and protected species are some of the strengths that add value to this activity. Stay away from the mass tourism & come with us and meet real people and a real country.
Program
DAY 1: Pick up & Check-in- Pick up at the combined location, with passage for a visit through the city of Guimarães.
- Check-in Accommodation in Bungalow or 4* Hotel.
DAY 2: Germil – Serra Amarela trail – 8 km – Difficulty level: Medium – 5 h
- After breakfast, transfer from the accommodation to the starting point.
- Circular trail with ecological and cultural value. This itinerary starts and ends at the Village of Germil, in Serra Amarela foothills. Its main attractions are the paving slabs, the Wolf Pitfall, mills, granaries, crop terraces and oak woods. Stunning panoramic views. Transfer to accommodation.
DAY 3: Serra Amarela / Vilarinho das Furnas trail – 18 km – Difficulty level: High – 7 h
- After breakfast, transfer from the accommodation to the starting point.
- Historical and cultural trail, with great landscapes. Starting at Brufe and ending at Campo do Gerês, its points of interest are the submerged village of Vilarinho das Furnas, the Wolf Pitfall, stone blocks, megalithic necropolis, brandas (typical mountain villages) and shepherd shelters. This trail goes through the ridge and southern hill of the mountain, with stunning views upon Serra do Gerês. It’s a living proof of the highlanders’ community life and of the ancient human occupation, from the Neolithic era until today. Transfer to accommodation.
DAY 4: Portela de Pitões – Cela trail – 14 km – Difficulty level: High – 5 h
- After breakfast, transfer from the accommodation to the starting point.
- Linear trail with ethnographic, geologic and fauna observation, which takes place at Serra do Xurês. Its main attraction is the beautiful abandoned village of Salgueiro, with its characteristic mountain architecture. The sumptuous panoramic views reach Serra de Laboreiro and the reservoirs of Conchas and Lindoso.Transfer to accommodation.
DAY 5: Free day
DAY 6: Carris / Virgem do Xurês church trail – 22 km – Difficulty level: High – 8 h
- After breakfast, transfer from the accommodation to the starting point.
- Trail along the magnificent glacial valley of Homem River, through an ancient path full of lagoons and waterfalls, which leads us to the highest peak of the National Park mountains. Here we can admire sublime landscapes that reach as far as the eye can see and, if we’re lucky, we might even see roe deers and wild goats. We’ll return through the Spanish side – Serra do Xurês, through a very ancient path that will takes us to the Virgin Chapel in Torneiros. Transfer to accommodation.
DAY 7: Teixeira Valley / Arado Waterfall – Serra do Gerês trail – 8 km – Difficulty level: Medium – 5 h
- After breakfast, transfer from the accommodation to the starting point.
- The Teixeira valley trail takes place in Serra do Gerês, along a path with corrals and fantastic landscapes. It starts in a forest path near Pedra Bela, which is connected to an old foot trail that guides us through the hearth of the mountain until we reach the superb Teixeira Valley and then descend to the iconic Arado waterfall, our ending point.
- Transfer to accommodation.
DAY 8: Check-out. Transfer back to Porto or other combined location.
